Simple Things You Can Do to Optimize Your PC’s Productivity

With our heavy reliance on technology in the business world, it is of the utmost importance to stay informed regarding the latest news, trends, hardware, and software.  Sometimes, however, it is hard to stay in the loop in the constantly-evolving world of technology.  Here are some simple steps you can take to optimize your performance and productivity.

  1. Check for updates. Upon installation, most software searches for updates to ensure that you have the latest patches and features. Computers, like humans, are not perfect.  Search for updates for your software and drivers to maximize the performance of the software you are using.
  2. Upgrade software versions. Software can become outdated over time.  If you are using software that is several years old, you are more than likely missing out on some amazing new innovations. Updating is great, but new software can revolutionize the performance of your PC.
  3. Upgrade your hardware. It is not always feasible to go out and purchase an entirely new system every time technology advances. However, there are many affordable alternatives to get your computer up to speed. External hard drives are able to store more information than ever before at a fraction of their previous cost.  Many devices run on USB, which is supported by nearly every machine in use today.  Adding memory can really speed up your system as well.
  4. Clean up your registry. This is not something novices should attempt.  There are many programs out there to help you rid your system of unnecessary programs whose processes rob your system of the memory needed to perform at optimal levels.  Before deleting any registry items, however, you should Google them and make sure if they are essential for your computer to operate properly.
  5. Make backups. Although this would seem like the most logical thing to do, many people are not in the habit of regularly backing up their important files. Use a flash drive, external hard drive, CD, or DVD to make sure that you don’t lose everything in the event of a major system crash.
