Customize Excel Comments

If you know how to create comments, did you know that you can change that drab yellow box to a more exciting, eye-catching shape? Ok, this is easy to do in Excel 2003 and is a great way to catch people’s attention. After you insert a comment on an Excel cell, select the border of the comment (Notice the pointer has a four-header when I clicked the border).

Now you can change it’s plain yellow box to a different AutoShape shape. From the drawing toolbar, select the Draw > Change AutoShape menu to pick your desired shape (see following image).

In the following example, I’ve changed three comments to have different shapes and colors, just by changing the AutoShape and fill colors. This will not only catch people’ attention but people will be more likely to remember them.

This can be done in Excel 2007, but you have to add the Change Shape command to the Quick Access toolbar first.
